Thanksgiving Traveling Tips When You’re Driving

Experts predict that the vast majority of holiday traveling happens in the car, rather than on airplanes. Here are some Thanksgiving traveling tips for the upcoming season.

Timing is Key

Unfortunately, the roads are chock-full of people driving to see their loved ones for the weekend. Statistics say that the best time to hit to road is sometime before Wednesday, when peak traffic happens, and the best time to head home is Friday around 6 a.m. (just watch out for those determined Black Friday shoppers).

Plan Ahead

It helps to be prepared. When you’re organizing a trip for the whole family, you should have a checklist of what to pack that includes activities to do in the car and mobile device chargers.

Call Your Bank

Credit cards are the most secure method of payment to use while traveling; debit cards and cash are the least secure. Many banks, however, will cancel credit cards if they see suspicious activity, including out-of-state purchases. Luckily, the solution is quite simple: call your bank ahead of time and let them know where you’re going.

Use Apps

Smartphone apps provide us with a wealth of information at our disposal. Looking for a hotel, a restaurant to stop at, or the lowest gas prices around? There’s an app for that.
